Supporting Global Dialogue at the 2024 Kimberley Process Plenary in Dubai

Held from November 12 to 15, 2024, at JAFZA One Convention Centre in Dubai, the 21st Kimberley Process (KP) Plenary Meeting marked a milestone in the international effort to prevent conflict diamonds from entering the global supply chain. Bringing together over 60 member states, industry stakeholders, and civil society organizations, the plenary concluded the UAE’s 2024 Chairmanship with landmark decisions, including the readmission of the Central African Republic and a pioneering move toward blockchain-based KP certificates.

  • Support 3 breakout session languages across 7 rooms.

  • Facilitate hybrid participation with fully integrated remote and on-site solutions.

  • Ensure flawless AV delivery including PTZ camera automation, streaming, and recording.

  • Overcome tight confirmation timelines and ensure network stability.

2024 Kimberley Process Plenary

Our Solution

Langpros designed and deployed a scalable and flexible infrastructure that allowed for real-time communication and content delivery across a multi-room, high-security environment:

Audio System & Interpretation

  • Deployed 280 Bosch microphones, with wireless units for the plenary and wired ones for the 7 breakout rooms.
  • Provided interpretation in French, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, Portuguese, Spanish, and English during two separate plenary days.
  • Supported breakout rooms in French, Russian, and English.
  • French interpreters were on-site, operating from a professional interpreting room as per client request. All other interpreters worked remotely, connected from different regions worldwide.

Video & Camera Management

  • Installed 4 Avonic PTZ cameras in the plenary room, programmed with automatic camera presets. When a delegate’s microphone was activated, the camera corresponding to that microphone’s ID automatically adjusted to the pre-set framing. This auto-switching mechanism enabled a professional, uninterrupted live video feed without requiring manual camera operation.
  • Each breakout room was equipped with its own dedicated PTZ camera, enabling multilingual hybrid meetings with video participation and interpretation integrated through the Bosch system.

Streaming, Recording & Connectivity

  • Provided multichannel live audio and video streaming, along with high-quality recordings of all plenary and breakout sessions.
  • To counter concerns about internet stability, Langpros deployed 5G routers as redundant backup, ensuring stable connection for remote interpreting and streaming operations.

Challenges and Response

• Last-Minute Confirmation:

The final confirmation came shortly before the event, compressing planning and logistics into a tight window. Langpros swiftly mobilized its global interpreter network and AV specialists, meeting all technical and linguistic requirements on time.

• Evolving Agenda:

Continuous changes in session timing and breakout allocations required flexible team coordination and real-time adaptation of the microphone, interpreter, and camera presets achieved thanks to our modular system design and on-site coordination team.

• Internet Stability:

High data demand for video streaming and hybrid interpreting called for a reliable connection. Langpros integrated bonded 5G internet solutions to maintain high throughput and minimize latency across all rooms.

Results

• Delivered real-time, multilingual hybrid interpreting across 8 rooms and 7 languages.

• Enabled clear and professional video feeds via PTZ automation highly praised by participants and organizers.

• Maintained zero downtime despite technical complexity and last-minute changes.

• All sessions were professionally recorded and archived, adding long-term value for stakeholders.

The Kimberley Process Plenary 2024 was a diplomatic and operational success and Langpros played a crucial role in enabling open, multilingual dialogue among nations.
